arts & crafts . home of broken social scene, jason collett, stars, feist, apostle of hustle, valley of the giants

This is a really cool Canadian Production company, that I just learned about from an aquaintance. It’s mostly a record label, but to quote their website:

Arts & Crafts is a record label, artist management, design house, distribution and production company… dedicated to the development and proliferation of beauty and greatness in all disciplines of the arts.

I think that Canadian “rock”/”alternative” (for lack of a better term) music is quite underestimated. It is in many respects similar to the Danish alternative scene, great talent and potential, but very limited international success. Successfull Danish acts, that you might have heard of, are not exactly “alternative” – for instance Aqua and Junior-Senior (oh well, maybe they’re a little alternative).

Another cool thing – you can purchase and download the entire A&C catalogue as MP3, no DRMs attached – thumbs up!

Skype-Hype and my dream device

Unbeliveable. Yesterday there were two, very badly researched, technology related reports on the Danish Public Service networks.

First the story on Google offering search for cheap airfares, now the announcement of a WiFi enabled “cell-phone” that can place calls using Skype.

In humanity we trust

I’m such an idiot. After I had finished in Lektiehjælpen in Mjølnerparken yesterday, my bike was gone…Damn…Did I forget to lock it? YES!!! When I was parking my bike, I was distracted by Bjarne, who arrivied at the same time I did, and I did indeed forget to lock my bike.

Pay for Campfire songs?

NewStandard: 8/23/96

I can’t believe this, that copyright controllers, through ASCAP, actually tried to get royalties for the right to sing songs in public from scouts.

The ASCAP, wisely, retreated after some massive negative press.
