Kim Bach . OrgTo follow up on the NORAD Tracks Santa post, I decided to check out some of the related links on norad.mil site, and stumpled upon the “America Supports You” site. I had a flash-back to one of the promotional videos that are shown in the movie “Starship Troopers”. Scary indeed
NORAD, created during the cold war, and possibly one of the key facilities in upholding it…OK the purpose is to provide an early warning system in case the world came under attack from nuclear missiles, but the facility is also a key part of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI aka. Star Wars aka. President Raygun’s wet dream).
It’s amazing how many people are warming up to the idea of ditching Wintel and switching to Mac.
What people are taken in by, is the general coolness, engineering and apparent quality of the Apple hardware, but they look baffled by the difference between Windows and OS X, and as I’ve reported before, there IS trouble in Mactopia.
The city of Vejle in Denmark recently, November 12th 2005, inaugurated the multi-storey parking facility TRÓNDUR. It’s a remarkable feat of functional design. That it is possible to turn a concrete, nightmarish, parking facility, into a well designed and even beautify piece of architecture, that fits well into the urban landscape utilising glass, concrete and typical Danish red-brick masonry, is no small feat. The attention to detail is remarkable, for instance the use of the city crest as a design element on the outside railing.

Multi-Language Ajax Frameworks – Ajax Patterns
As I wrote earlier, I’m beginning to warm up to the concept of the Ajax programming model(s), and with the emergence of multiplatform Ajax frameworks, it looks like now is the time.
The article above, from the great resource Ajax Patterns, contains a list of cross platform Ajax frameworks. I think that especially RIALTO – Rich Internet Ajax Toolkit looks very promissing. For a demo of what you can do with RIALTO check out the demo.
RIALTO – like a lot of the Ajax frameworks – is open source, for RIALTO it’s under an Apache license.
Hmm, I think that I’m getting SOLD on AJAX technology…Gollum is a brilliant application of AJAX that provides a nice, uncluttered wrapper for Wikipedia. Gollum has been localised for a large number of languages, including Danish, and it’s very fast too.
One thing I think is missing is a link to the other language versions of articles, or maybe an automatic “degradation” to a second, or even third, prefered language.

Of course it’s no surprise that Microsoft is discontinuing support of Internet Explorer on the Mac, this was announced some time ago, but what surprises me is that the Microsoft mactopia website still supports it, e.g. by offering IE downloads, instead of providing a link to the alternatives.
